Otherworldly, out-of-body experiences and alien abductions -- they've been the stuff of legend for decades. Turns out, they're probably just figments of our imaginations and scientists are trying to prove it.
Intrigued by the idea that alien abduction stories stemmed from the weird and wonderful powers of the dreaming brain -- researchers from Out-Of-Body Experience Research Center in Los Angeles (only in America hey?) took 20 volunteers on a dream induced thrill ride. Apparently you can manipulate peoples' dreams by getting them to perform a 'series of mental steps' as soon as they wake up or are lucid in the middle of the night.
More than half of the 20 sleepers experienced out-of-body sensations or contact with aliens, some even describing UFOs. Who needs drugs when you can get some natural out-of-body kicks for free -- just go to sleep and follow the instructions. [Space.com]
