After successfully taking out a child porn ring, Anonymous is threatening war on November 5th with Mexico’s Zetas drug cartel, after the kidnapping of an Anonymous member from Veracruz.
The video states that if the Mexican drug cartel doesn’t free the kidnapped Anonymous member unharmed, the hacking group will release the names, addresses and photos of taxi drivers, journalists and police officers on the payroll of the criminal gang. The video ends with an ultimatum that simply states that they “will always remember this coming November 5th”.
Taking out a child porn ring was one very good thing, but challenging serious and violent organised crime is another entirely. Whatever happens November 5th, it’ll be an interesting day to watch from the sidelines. [YouTube, The Guardian]

why don’t they use their hacking powers for good all the time
Because “Anonymous” isn’t a single group. If anything, it’s a collection of groups, with each group operating completely independently of the others. Some people within Anonymous are members of multiple groups, but it’s not a small subset of people at all. Essentially, it’s an excuse for mob rule and to do what the hell you want.
They very often do, it’s the people doing stuff like LulzSec do and claiming to be Anon that hurt it’s name and/or “mission”
Either way, I’m always interested in the group, facinating to read.
This could cause some major problems for the group
This will only cause bloodshed. I can’t see how people as ruthless as the Mexican Drug cartels will do anything other than murder anyone they can get their hands on.
These are the same people who have been known to kidnap people, make them fight to the death and then make the “winner” walk into a rival cartel’s area and shoot them up as a suicide mission. These are the same people who don’t just murder people who get in their way, but also murder and torture their friends, families and anyone close to them.
I will be very suprised if this member that has been kidnapped shows up alive.
Although his fate was already probably decided before this threat anyway.
Having someone’s address and an accusation of having them tied to a criminal gang isn’t enough to get arrests, there needs to be proof to get convictions from the government
I like anonymous’s ideals, but the execution seems ill thought out and unprofessional
Professional? Anonymous? HA!
Good luck Anonymous. Not sure how this will play out but I sure hope you are protected by a million firewalls. Smoke out the bad guys and let’s see what happens next.
