Nuance is reportedly acquiring Swype, the company behind the popular keyboard alternative for Android. The purchase price is estimated to be a cool £64 million.

It’s an interesting purchase for Nuance which is regarded as one of the top voice recognition companies. Swype is not involved in voice, but is a popular keyboard that lets you enter text by swiping your finger across the screen. The software then predicts the text you are entering with amazing accuracy.

It’s not known how Nuance will integrate Swype’s predictive text entry with its voice recognition and dictation products. But it wouldn’t be too hard to imagine a sweet, new keyboard that combines the best of both technologies. [Uncrunched]
