BlackBerry maker RIM has announced it’s giving away a stack of apps and games to its users over the next few months, as a combined apology and peace-offering to those who suffered during last week’s “BlackBerry Jam” network failures.
The company is making a decent number of apps and games free on its BlackBerry App World online store, which includes the likes of The Sims 3, Bejeweled, iSpeech Translator Pro, Photo Editor Ultimate and many more. The freebies will remain free until December 31st, with RIM claiming “over $100″ worth of apps will eventually be made available.
If you’re more of a corporate/business user with an enterprise account, there’s something in it for you, too — RIM is giving all business users one month of free technical support. Something RIM itself could’ve used last week.
Also in semi-related additional bad news for RIM today, banking group RBS is rumoured to be considering a switch away from BB to iPhone for its big-money senior employees, with a pilot scheme involving handing out iPad and iPhones to a group of management men already under way. [BlackBerry]

Hang on, don’t we the UK people own a large stake in RBS? I object to taxpayers money being spent on giving free iPhones to the rich dick who got us into our current financial mess.
Wouldn’t it be easier for RIM to give it’s users a new iPhone instead…
I’m an iPhone user, and maybe I’m being a bit of a dick, but if I lost my data connection for the best part of three days, free copies of The Sims 3, Bejeweled, iSpeech Translator Pro, & Photo Editor Ultimate wouldn’t go very far to console me. Free data the following month would help though.
