Two hacking groups, Anonymous and Team Poison, have joined forces to take on the banks, steal money and donate it to charities and protests. Reclaiming the “99 per cent’s money back”.
Apparently the plan is to swipe money from stolen credit card and bank details and donate it to charities and protest movements:
“Operation Robin Hood is going to return the money to those who have been cheated by our system and most importantly to those hurt by our banks. Operation Robin Hood will take credit cards and donate to the 99 per cent as well as various charities around the globe.”
PoisAnon is relying on the fact that the banks will reimburse stolen cash from victim’s credit cards, which is probably a safe bet, but would backfire horribly if that doesn’t actually happen. Both hacker teams have had success in the past hacking into banks and are confident they can do it again. The thought of internet Robin Hoods running around helping out the poor is a noble proposition, but I can’t see this not impacting your average Joe on the street. The money they intend to steal has to come from somewhere and almost everything ends up landing with the customer. [YouTube via The Inquirer]

So, they are basically thieving, but calling it something a touch more noble?
There are far more evil organisations in the world than the banks! Terrorists, rougue governments etc. How about we take their money first!
When the card holder reports fraudulent use, the funds will be taken back from the charity.
The charity will not get any funds, the bank will not lose any funds, and the card holder will not pay anything.
I guess it’s the thought that counts!
lol Anonymous won’t hack the account of Mr.Smith on the High Street and transfer a few £100′s they will hack into huge corporate accounts where the bank’s keep their profits…
“Operation Robin Hood will take credit cards and donate to the 99 per cent as well as various charities around the globe”
And who are the 99% exactly!? I have a good job, I work hard, pay my taxes and consume some services – I don’t want or need any money! It’s all very easy to blame the banks but lets not forget that they employ tens of thousands of people in this country and the tax levied against them as a business pays for a third of the NHS every year!
I’m not sure exactly who the 99% are – I guess just those who aren’t super rich bankers? Perhaps PoisAnon members, as part of the 99% would just keep the money and consider it an act of justice!
Aside from the fact that this won’t work, I think the targeting is off. Most of the credit card companies & high street banks are not the same as the mortgage companies who got us into this mess, & attacking them is not exactly about justice.
When they say to “transfer your money into a secure account” while they’re inplying that no bank is secure, what do they want us to do? lol
