Judging from a 29-page thread brewing on the Apple support forums over the past few weeks, the iPhone 4S is suffering from a glitch where outbound calls have no audio coming from the earpiece. And the problem is affecting people on all networks.
Based on the accounts of those postings, the problem seems to revolve around some sort driver issue between the iOS software and the iPhone 4S hardware. People have no issue with incoming calls or other aspects of iOS that use the earpiece, such as Siri. Originally, people thought the problem was due to connection confusion with Bluetooth headsets, but then it was revealed that those who had never even used the Bluetooth connection also encountered the same fate.
Users say that the problem remedies itself when speakerphone is toggled on and off, Siri is activated, or headphones are plugged in, then unplugged. But obviously, these are just workarounds for a problem, not a fix.
Furthermore, MacRumors posted this week about more call problems: one issue involves echoes and poor audio quality when using a bluetooth headset, and the other involves a persistent static sound during conversations.

So this make 3 problems for iOS 5/iPhone 4S (the other 2 being battery drain and echo on calls) looks like Apples quality control need a kick up the arse.
Don’t know about this fault, but my Dad has had three iPhone 4S handsets as they are persistently dropping the network then picking up again. Not the SIM as it does it consistently. He’s on the verge of getting shot all together. Shame, the ‘just works’ aspect is why I recommended he get one.
My 4S is not receiving push email (even over exchange), consistently refuses to download apps, and sometimes doesn’t receive text messages until I restart the handset. I’m restoring the handset tonight and seeing if that helps at all, but otherwise it’s a stern call to O2 customer service. At least my battery life is great and I haven’t experienced any problems with calls despite having already called for over ten hours on it!
You know, I really hate how buggy Android is – iOS just works so well. It is so well integrated and smooth – not like that buggy Android which drains battery, force closes apps, has too many things running in the background making it all laggy and buggy.
Maybe if they worked more like Apple & iOS they would have a decent OS with fewer bugs and less fragmentation! This dropping calls issue is just another symptom of the problems which permeate through Android……..oh wait……..
Nonsense, everybody knows that all apple products always work. Any problems you might think you are experiencing are merely either figments of your imagination or you are just doing it wrong. Proof you ask? A bloke I know down the pub told me his mate’s sister’s best friend’s cousin’s husband has an iphone and he never has a problem with it.
I know a bloke who doesn’t have these problems.. didn’t have the anntenna problem on teh 4 either.. and that bloke is ME !
