Future Doctor Who Film Wants to Reboot the Timeline

David Yates, director of the last four Harry Potter films, has his eye on Doctor Who, saying he intends to spend the next few years working with the BBC to bring a blockbuster Who film to cinemas.

Speaking to film resource Variety, Yates said: "Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch" -- so it looks like an all-new, standalone reboot that exists inside its own timeline is on the cards.

Yates says himself and the BBC are currently looking out for writers, with the planning processes expected to take "two to three years."

We're fine with the idea of rebooting the storyline, as that means we can have Billie Piper back in it again. [Variety via Metro]
