It didn’t take long for complaints about the Galaxy Nexus to start rolling in, with Google confirming its hot new Android 4.0 phone isn’t currently compatible with Adobe’s Flash Player and early adopters spotting an odd volume-muting software bug.
The lack of a version of Adobe’s Flash Player at launch is a rather big hole in the phone’s functionality, what with Flash compatibility being one of Android’s key recent boasts. But it will arrive soon enough, despite Adobe’s lack of commitment to the mobile format, with a Google employee telling SlashGear “Flash hasn’t been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS.”
As for the volume control bug? That’s been reported by many new owners over on the power-user XDA forums and even Samsung’s own Facebook page, with some Galaxy Nexus owners noting the phone has a life of itself when it comes to audio levels, often reverting to a full mute — and silencing ring tones and notifications.
There’s a video of the Galaxy Nexus volume glitch online here, if you need visual proof before believing anything you read on internet forums.
In other news, a reader by the name of Anthony got in touch last week to complain that the Galaxy Nexus doesn’t appear to have an FM radio app, despite Phones4U specifying it on the list of specs. If that’s a dealbreaker for you, it may be one to strike off the list. [Android Police and SlashGear]

Adobe Pulling Android Flash Support, No Chance of Flash In Jelly Bean

The Giant Volume Knob On These Headphones Makes It Easy For Anyone To Crank Your Tunes
Make up your mind. Last week flash was dead apparently, now it’s essential?
Gary didn’t say it was essential — in fact, if you read the post again, the only time he passed judgement on the lack of Flash was here: “The lack of a version of Adobe’s Flash Player at launch is a rather big hole in the phone’s functionality, what with Flash compatibility being one of Android’s key recent boasts.”
This IS a bit of a double standard, especially as no iPhone review mentions this “rather big hole in the phone’s functionality”. The volume bug or ‘SAV-Ghost’ as it has been christened is a weird one. It seens to be related to the phone changing from 3G to 2G or Wi-fi (or any combination thereof).
I agree with Darrell! While I’m not finding Giz UK has a bias, it rankles me when people don’t point out the obvious. Like it or not Flash adds a lot to mobile for its video support. Not much else mind!
I set the UAString on my Tablet to ipad and suddenly the sites I was visiting stopped working eg no live streaming.
I see even sites for the ipad like ilounge have flash on the page!
Software issues are quick to fix, especially considering the galaxy nexus is running stock android. No need to wait for the billion different bastardized carrier versions.
Two things:
1-) Skype and Viber are two applications that are not working and often creashing on the Galaxy Nexus (got one yesterday
).
2-) Phones4U when you read the paper with the price plans, says that it’s memory can be expanded with SD Card and that is not true.
On the bright side, the battery isn’t dead in hours. Zing!
Re: 1) Always happens when you have a new version of Android, some Apps need to be updated.
re: 2). Yeah, I saw that at the weekend. I had to actually point it out to the salesman. Did you buy on or off contract. If on, what was the cost?
I bought it off contract, I still have a Nexus One contract that expires in June next year.
Decided not to pay the extra £40 over my existing preorder, which should be with me by the end of this week anyway. How’s it working out for you. Having any volume problems?
No volume problems. I started playing with it last night so it is fairly early to say, but so far I am very happy with it.
Speech now works in different languages.
It is fast.
Quality of the pictures, which I was concerned, seems to be very good (enough for me anyway).
Is there a way to attach pictures to the post? I wanted to show the quality.
One more thing, despite the size, the phone is light and I had no problems carrying it in my pocket, and that extra screen sized is quite nice.
Maybe people are just holding it wrong.
This is exactly what I was afraid of. Everyone has been dancing on Flash’s grave, but there are still sites that use flash. I want to be able to watch clips on the BBC site on my phone. I don’t care if new websites won’t use flash, I want backward compatibility. Those older sites won’t disappear. Until HTML 5 will render legacy flash, I am not that interested. This glitch with ICS is a deal breaker. I am going to buy a Razr. Face recognition and a new font are hardly counterweights.
I’ve had one since launch and have not noticed any issues with the volume. Not fussed about flash but I am keen for a BBC iPlayer app compatible with ICS.
