A French tech company wants to eliminate all internal email, claiming only 10 per cent is actually of any use. It thinks internal forums, wikis and instant messaging are the future.
French IT specialist Atos says its 74,000 staff receive around 200 internal emails a day, with 18 per cent of those being of the purest and most useless spam. It's already managed to reduce internal email by 20 per cent, with employees keen on using the new messaging tools and a bespoke Facebook-like internal social network.
Given that the key part of any working day is figuring out how best to waste it without actually doing anything, surely the staff will simply find exciting new forms of e-procrastination once internal email's been binned. [ABC]
