Could Goodfellas and Taxi Driver do with a once-over with the 3D paintbrush? While most of us will be screaming "noooooo!" and jumping up and down waving our arms, Martin Scorsese has fallen for the charms of 3D after shooting Hugo and has said he wants to shoot all his next films in the format.
The director and producer told Deadline "quite honestly, I would [shoot my next films in 3D]", adding "I don't think there's a subject matter that can't absorb 3D; that can't tolerate the addition of depth as a storytelling technique."
Before barricading the doors and tossing out your DVD of The Aviator, Scorsese admitted that "certain subject matters aren't meant for 3D," so fingers crossed he won't "do a Cameron" and re-release all his old classics with those god-awful slicked-over 3D effects. Though he did say that The Aviator and Taxi Driver could've benefitted from being shot in 3D, so who knows. [Deadline via The Guardian]
