London might be cold, grey, wet and miserable. But at least it has a giant Lego Christmas tree to cheer up its inhabitants.
Standing proud on the ground floor of St Pancras International station, this 12.2 meter-high Christmas tree is made exclusively from Lego bricks. Well, save for some elements of steel which support its heavier branches. But that’s good enough for me.
It has 172 branches, and is covered in over 1,000 Lego baubles. The whole tree has taken two months — two months! — to build, and uses over 600,000 bricks.
That is a lot of Lego bricks. It’s also a very long time, and means that none of us are going to be able to rush out and recreate it before 25 December. Not even if you happen to have half a million pieces of Lego scattered around your house.
Still, that shouldn’t mean that London gets to have all the fun. The other week we showed you how to make your own Lego baubles. So get building. [The Guardian, Image: David Parry/PA]

And at least we didn’t try to decorate it with a helicopter.
At least they won’t have to hoover up the bits after a few weeks like on a real tree… or will they?
London’s grey not gray!
I had to give you a thumbs up for this, I logged in to say the same..
On days like today, I’d wager it’s both.
Grey is a colour where as Gray is a color
Chin up London types, the sun is supposed to come out about 10 according to the forecast.
Lego is fantastic, and I’m thrilled that my 4 year old Godson agrees. It’s what’s technically known as an excuse to buy lego so I can play with it with him. Hard life!
The sun just came out, yay
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are thy lego-bricks!
Not only green when summer’s here
But in the coldest time of year.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are thy lego-bricks!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy baubles shine out brightly!
Each brick doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy baubles shine out brightly!
Less than a month to go!!
I saw the Coca Cola advert last week and now that it’s a month away…maybe it’s time to buy a tree! Or lego.
