Is it flattering to have people mistake you for Julian Assange? That’s what happened to Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, who confused UK border controls when they thought the Wikipedia man was notorious international man of mystery Assange.
The story comes from Wales himself, who’s clearly quite flattered about it all. Arriving at UK immigration, Wales attempted to impress security by referring to himself as “the founder of Wikipedia” which, according to Wales, made the security lady literally drop her pencil in surprise.
“WikiLeaks!” she excitedly enquired.
“No, no, no. Different guy. Not wanted in Sweden” – said Jimmy.
And there ends his interesting anecdote about the time someone almost recognised him outside of his own world. [SMH via TechEye]

With all this wiki confusion I expect this guy to be extradited to Sweden http://www.jeffbots.com/twiki.html
is it just me or does this article seem a little condescending to Wales? I’m all for openness and i think the earlier part of what wikileaks stood for was fine but unless there’s something potentially life threatening Wales has done it seems as though you put him across like being proud to be the founder of a “top five” website is undeserved.
Yes, it’s a bit mean. But I was mean to Julian last week, so it’s only fair.
well allrighty then
Woman mishears man.
Man corrects woman.
The end.
Haha! From the smaller picture before I clicked through I thought that Derren Brown was for some reason involved in this Assange mix up!
