According to a French newspaper, Google's planning a pilot program for Google Wallet in London during Q1 next year, in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics. Google's managed to gain a bit of traction in the US after launching Wallet in September for Android, but it's having difficulty convincing everyone that it's the next best thing to sliced bread.
Of course to succeed in Britain it needs more than just an app. It's all about getting NFC into shops, phones and banks, and Google will need some big partnerships to make that happen on these shores. Still, if Google manages to pull it off and gets Wallet associated with the Olympics, it'll catapult it onto the world stage -- if it works that is. [Les Echos via The Next Web]
