Although iOS does many things really well, its multitasking UI is not one of them. The iPad’s gesture support makes things much better, but on the iPhone, it’s just clunky. As it just so happens, Apple has brought on someone with a few ideas on how to improve that.
Earlier this year, Jan-Michael Cart made a few concept videos for new multitasking and notification systems in iOS. It involved faster app switching and app closing, among other things. According to 9to5mac, the Cupertino company has snatched Cart up as an intern, which means they must have been impressed by something.
Obviously, some aspects of the concepts aren’t ideal, but if they keep Cart as a full-time employee, I’d love to see parts them baked into iOS. [9to5mac]

true mate!
It’s an interesting idea. However, the main reason multitouch gestures seem to be allowed on iPad and not iPhone/iPod Touch is how you use the device.
You use the iPad with two hands, meaning you use one hand to hold and have the other hand free to do the multitouch gestures. However, the handheld devices are just that – designed to be held and operated in one hand.
Currently, the only native iPhone iOS gesture that really needs two hands is pinch-to-zoom – everything else (current multitasking system included) can be done with one hand, on-the-go (remember this article? http://gizmodo.com/5847981/this-is-why-the-iphones-screen-will-always-be-35-inches).
It just doesn’t make sense to add in a feature on a one-handed device that requires two hands to operate!
Or you can use a thumb-finger combo for 1 handed pinch to zoom.
Really? I find that awkward as hell and VERY inaccurate!
Fair enough, I prefer holding my phone in one hand and doing the pinching with the other. I don’t feel that I’ve got a good enough grip on my phone if I try to rest it on my fingers and use both thumbs.
Is it just me or does it remind other people of WebOS Cards?
Isn’t that like, really really similare, to windows 8 multitasking??
