Kim Kardashian, The Royal Wedding and X Factor Top Google's Depressing 2011 Search Zeitgeist

By Gary Cutlack on at

Google has compiled a list of the most popular and fastest-growing search terms used in the UK during 2011, revealing that, yes, the entire country has turned into one huge version of the Daily Mail.

The Royal Wedding was the "fastest rising search query" according to Google, with bride Kate Middleton one of the top ten fastest rising people. iPhone 5 was the second fastest rising search query in 2011, which is pretty good going for an imaginary thing that does not yet exist.

In the world of mundane music and TV searching, US TV star Ryan Dunn was the unfortunate chart topper, after news of his death broke online earlier this year. Singer Adele was the second most hunted for in the UK.

And for some odd reason US reality TV star or model or whatever it is she does Kim Kardashian was the UK's most Googled celebrity. Perhaps that was from confused people trying to work out who she is and why she's famous?

"How to revise" was the top 'How to..' search result, beating "How to snog" in to second place. Here's the entire, bewildering list, for you to sob over.
