LED Bulb Trial Made People Feel Safer

A trial which saw 35 social houses fitted entirely with LED lightbulbs had some interesting results, with the softer, more natural light giving communal areas a more welcoming feel. And everyone saved a few quid, too.

The trial, which was organised by the Energy Saving Trust, saw over 4,250 of the newer LED bulbs installed in various housing areas. As well as saving around 3,000,000 kWh of electricity, there was a feel good factor involved too.

The EST report said: "The increase in colour temperature typically produced by LEDs also improved the environments monitored in the field trial, a factor much appreciated by the social housing tenants."

Communal areas and stairwells also felt safer, due to being better lit. [EST via BBC]
