Popular game developer Square Enix took its web sites offline yesterday, warning that hackers "may have gained unauthorized access to a particular Square Enix server."
The server involved is said to have contained names and email addresses of fans registered for its Square Enix Members scheme, with users able to optionally add their addresses if they could be bothered typing it all in. No credit card details were stored at Square Enix's end.
There's some good news for us lot, though -- the 1.8m figure includes one million Japanese users and 800,000 American subscribers. The company's 300,000 European users were on a different, definitely-not-hacked server. [France24 via SlashGear]
