Three Launching 4G Trial in the Thames Valley, From March

By Gary Cutlack on at

UK mobile network Three has announced plans to launch its own trial of a 4G network, with a test covering parts of the Thames Valley due to kick off next spring.

It's quite a bit lower in scope and coverage than the London-based O2 4G trial, though. Four locations in and around the hot-ish spots of Maidenhead and Slough are set to be covered by the new, specially created mini network -- which will use the 2.6GHz spectrum.

This will be a closed technical test at first, lasting for one month, with actual users not invited to take part later in 2012, when a wider trial will begin. [FT via ZDnet]
