With the privacy snafu that is Carrier IQ raging over in the States, some of our networks have come out and said that they specifically don't use the snooping service. But of course that doesn't mean it's not installed on your phone, tracking your every keystroke, sifting through your data, and lifting your Playboy Online credentials.
Vodafone, Orange and O2 have all said that they do not install nor use Carrier IQ within the UK. They also said that "to the best of their knowledge" it's not installed on any of the phones they have on their books. Interestingly, the Guardian dug up Carrier IQ's own document (PDF), which says that Vodafone Portugal is rolling out the tracking service. Google's also confirmed that none of its Nexus line of flagship Android phones come packing Carrier IQ, whereas Apple cut it out with iOS 5, so chances are if you're in the UK you'll probably be tracker-free -- at least as far as Carrier IQ is concerned. Google already knows almost everything about you anyway. [The Guardian]
