Microsoft's rolling out a new Xbox dashboard update that'll include LoveFilm streaming. To go with it, Windows Phone 7 users will also get a cool little free app to control and interact with their Xbox from the comfort of the sofa.
The app will let you search for games and movies from the Xbox catalogue, use your phone as a second screen for whatever you're playing/watching, and keep abreast of your friend's Xbox Live activity. It'll be free and looks like it's going to do a bit more than your average remote app, so should be worth checking out.
That's not all Microsoft has up its sleeve for UK users though -- 4oD and Demand 5 will be available later this month too. Unfortunately BBC iPlayer integration isn't scheduled until 'early 2012', and there's no mention of ITV Player in Microsoft's announcement.
It's about time Microsoft got with the media-playback program; the PS3 has been streaming LoveFilm, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4oD, among others, for a while now in the UK. In the US, Microsoft is trying to turn the Xbox into a 'cable box' replacement. To be fair, that's unlikely to happen in the UK, but more media capabilities can only be welcomed.
