Apple Forks Out Just £3.2m In Chip Patent Settlement

By Sam Gibbs on at

Apple's been forced to pay up in an out-of-court settlement with Elan Microelectronics to the tune of £3.2m. The patent battle centred around Apple’s infringement of touch-based patents. Ironic considering Cupertino’s been trying to leverage its own multi-touch patents against others for a while now.

Frankly, £3.2m is a drop in the ocean for a company sitting on billons in cold, hard cash, so it certainly looks like Apple came off pretty lightly. Elan had attempted to get an injunction against Apple selling MacBooks and iDevices, but that never materialised. Not quite getting off scot-free, but close enough as far as Apple is concerned.
