It looks like the first Google TV device to launch in the UK won’t actually be a TV, but is more likely to be a web-connected Sony Blu-ray player that also supports Google’s TV dream.
According to The Verge, Google demonstrated last year’s Sony NSZ-GT1 Blu-ray player at a UK-themed press event, claiming the Google TV-enabled player will launch here during the summer. However, Sony’s just confirmed that the updated NSZ-GP9 model will be launching in the UK, arriving with a much simpler and more streamlined remote control.
The company’s NSZ-GS7 Network Media Player will also arrive alongside the Blu-ray player this summer.
Previously we were worried we’d have to wait until next year for any official taste of Google’s TV service in the UK, as the only hardware confirmation we’ve seen thus far was LG’s disappointing claim it’d have a Google TV set ready for us lot in 2013. [The Verge -- Thanks Darrell!]
Update: Sony sent us a new image and spec of the UK model, so this post has been edited to reflect the new information.

I don’t get it, why does it take so long to release this to UK. There can’t be that much localisation needed, can there? I’d love to see a twin DVB-T2 tuner Google TV set-top box released in UK.
I think that Google are doing the sensible thing and getting the content first this time round, they totally screwed up the US launch, so this is very important.
