We’ve known that Kinect for Windows is coming for a while now, but The Daily got its hands on the first computers that have the technology built directly into them:
The devices, which at first glance appear to be Asus netbooks running Windows 8, feature an array of small sensors stretching over the top of the screen where the webcam would normally be. At the bottom of the display is a set of what appear to be LEDs.
Microsoft confirmed to The Daily that the devices were official prototypes. Windows 8 lends itself well to non-standard interaction, from the obvious touch-friendliness, to the totally amazing Tobii eyetracking controls, to probably Kinect. Although we’re maybe not totally excited to see a coffee shop full of jackasses karate chopping their way through Fruit Ninja rounds. [The Daily]

Nice concept for smear free screens – and I ain’t even going to make a flesh light iPad joke.
The only real competition for Apple will be from Microsoft! Android will fade away into insignificance! For tablets and mobile, it’s a matter of time, that’s all. Microsoft will offer a much more reliable platform, better user experience and features people can relate to, not to forget reliable applications that just work as on the desktop. Bring on the tablet kinect experience by all means, can’t wait..
I see in the last three months of 2011 Android sales of tablets increased by 10% while Apple sales dropped by 10% – while Android more than doubled its smartphone sales in 2011 from 25% to 52% – did they forget to tell you the party was over, switch the light off as you leave.
At this rate RIM and Microsoft smart devices with be outselling Apple in 2013
You really are of yer rocker.. Apple are at the top of the tree, they are the only ones that make real money from hardware and software! Google have yet to release a tablet of its own. The apps on android generally suck in comparison to Apple. People who buy an Android device, then realise that fancy hardware on its own isn’t very good. Apple all the way, will never be beat because it’s got the complete package! When o when will you realise..
Did you not see the feature on Apples last QTR… The best ever! I could have sworn you had much to say on it, yet now you claim Apples in decline… Would you care to clarify?, if I were you I would have a word with who ever is providing you with such nonsense information!
Setting aside the company’s QTR, it is Apple who will be in decline. Android is at the top, they are evolving rapidly and are doing very well. I’ve already been through the apple phase, which I ended up hating mainly due to its limited potential and have now defected to Android. I prefer my SII over the iPhone completely.
I remember seeing an advert for aple, which shows off all the shizz you can do with an iPhone, on every single thing they showed, you HAD to have the other part to it. It actually made me laugh. I find Apple fanboys quite hilarious, what with their massive Ego’s.
At least you say will be in decline, but right now no signs of decline are evident, correct? The opposite in fact with the healthy QTR? Yes! People buy Android, of course they do, why because they cater for all levels of affordability and because so many different handsets exist. Apple aims at the premium market, they don’t care much for the budget end. People at the premium end buy Apps and Music so Apple make more money. The people who buy the many Android budget phones just want a phone, don’t really care about much else, just so it works, no need to buy apps or music, and for they money they have to spend, they can’t have Apple, probably don’t even want or need apple, people like my parents who couldn’t care less, and android, well its just fits the bill, people like you will count these purchases when claiming how well android is doing! If apple really wanted to go down such a route it would just license iOS out to others, What’s the need… apple are happy with its premium market!
But your are talking American figures, you live in the UK, the most tech savy country in the world, and the single biggest selling smartphone in this country for 9 consecutive months now is the Samsung Galaxy SII, purely based in it being the best phone on the market for just as long. And sure Apple have a healthy profit from screwing people in their store, 70% paid apps, opposed to Android’s 70% free, you can get almost like for like free. It is a question of consumerism, and that ain’t a lot of people out there today.
I’ll give Apple credit when they deserve it, but right now Samsung are smashing them without breaking a sweat, not Android, one model from one company in the UK is out selling the iPhone – no getting around that, buy your American phone, believe those American figures, but sooner or later you are going to need to realise that you ain’t American, and give real credit where it is due.
Breaking figures in one country does not mean success, c’mon you know that. These smart phones are global products, marketed everywhere. We don’t have much going in terms of a uk brand for phones, apple is the cream of the crop, ok so Samsung isn’t bad but it ain’t British either! The world is a smaller place these days and we all want the best things we can get our hands on, for me that means Apple. For people to say Apple is declining is just stupid, even you know that even though you said it, and as for America, I love it, new York is great for shopping and nightlife, South Beach Miami best for everything, do yeah I’m happy with American Apple, have you been to Korea?
This would be such a great inclusion – it’s one of those things where the limitations will be imaginative rather technological.
e.g Imagine putting some music on while you putter away in the room, you could pause/skip whatever without going over to the laptop.
