A hacking team going under the excellent name of “The Lords of Dharmaraja” claims to have accessed confidential Symantec servers and downloaded the source code for its Norton Antivirus flagship product. And it’ll be dumping the 1.7GB file online tomorrow.
Symantec has commented on the breach, saying: “Presently, we have no indication that the code disclosure impacts the functionality or security of Symantec’s solutions. Furthermore, there are no indications that customer information has been impacted or exposed at this time.”
A sample of the leak has already been uploaded to anonymous text sharing site Pastebin, although the introductory text makes it appear to come from the year 1999.
Tomorrow we’ll find out. [Reuters]

I hope he gives it a good wipe afterwards, it’s not hygienic otherwise.
Who actually uses norton anyway?
A huge ammount of consumers. It’s easy to joke about it online & on a tec website but the fact that Norton are such a huge company proves that alot of people are buying/getting (be it pre-installed) on systems.
I like how Norton states how this won’t impact functionality or security, when it is a massive ironic smack in the chops for them. Reminds me of when I was living in Manchester and the police station had its new CCTV cameras nicked.
