YouTube users may now upload the equivalent of 240,000 full-length films every week, but the site once hosted less than a hundred clips. And the very first, precedent-setting video was...about elephants?

YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim holds the distinction for the first upload with "Me at the Zoo" on April 23, 2005. Over 18 seconds, he explains what is so cool about the elephants at the San Diego Zoo. [New Yorker via NPR via Buzzfeed]
