The iPhone’s had a cellular streaming-capable BBC iPlayer app for a while now. Thankfully Android has caught up at last. A new update has just hit the Android Market to enable 3G streaming, as well as smoother playback thanks to an updated Flash Player.
Let’s just hope it’s a bit less blocky on Android than 3G streaming on iOS is – just because you can doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll want to, especially if you can’t make out what the hell is going on thanks to the crappy quality. [Android Market via BBC]

Or you could just use the browser. Since they insist on using flash (despite having perfectly good streams for the iPhone/iPad that don’t use it), there is absolutely nothing to be gained from using the App. Just go to the iPlayer site.
Why don’t they use the streams that iOS uses? It’s extremely annoying that my 1st generation iPod touch plays great quality smooth streams while my HTC Desire plays it all choppy and blocky making it unwatchable.
Does anyone know why the iPlayer won’t work on WP7? It can’t just be because it doesn’t support flash because iOS doesn’t either.
