Did you know that Thomas Edison got his first job as a telegraph operator after saving the daughter of a station agent from an oncoming train? Or that he didn’t invent the lightbulb, but instead created the first commercially viable version?
Were he, by some remarkable feat of science, still alive today, Thomas Edison would be enjoying his 165th birthday. And to celebrate, I suggest you take some time, three minutes to be exact, to brush up on his life and achievements. While he might not have been the country’s greatest inventor, like Steve Jobs he had the business savvy to capitalise and bring a great idea to the masses. Even if it unfortunately meant electrocuting an elephant along the way. (Edison, not Jobs.) [YouTube via Neatorama]

“He took credit for the inventions of others” and all the related articles are about Steve Jobs. Hmmm.
Thomas Edison was to Nikola Tesla, same what Steve Jobs was to Dennis Ritchie.
Obviously the two pairs had different types of relationships, but in cultural sense of how they’re generally publically recognised, I believe this is true; One is a marketeer and greedy exploiter(Edison & Jobs), and the other a true innovator (Tesla & Ritchie).
Tells you a bit about the world we live in, donnit?
