Wonder no more — the N9, basically Nokia’s Lumia 800 just with MeeGo on it, is now running Android 4.0 and it’s been caught on video. Now you can see for yourself what a modern Nokia phone running Android would be like, if Nokia hadn’t gotten into bed with Microsoft.
OK, the port isn’t really ready for prime time just yet — the radios don’t work, OpenGL support is still a work in progress, and there’s something funny going on with the power management. But an early alpha is promised soon for N9 owners and you should be able to dual boot Android with MeeGo for the best of both worlds.
For the rest of us, we get a glimpse at what Nokia’s future would’ve been like if it had plonked for Android and not Windows Phone. [YouTube via SlashGear]

If only Nokia had decided to go with Android as well as or instead of WP7, then we’d have phones with Nokia’s awesome hardware and Google’s awesome software. Sadly this port is probably the closest thing we’ll get.
Nokia were so close to turning things around, they could have easily taken this path, however their ex-Microsoft CEO steered them down the road that lead to the doomed Windows “smart”phone “strategy”.
As much as it would’ve been awesome if Nokia made Android devices, I’m not surprised that they went for WP7. Firstly it means they have financial support which will be crucial as they make a transition that should really have happened years ago. Secondly, it means they are a big player in a relatively small manufacture base. Up until recently it has really only been a couple of HTC, Samsung and LG devices on a relatively good but young OS.
If they had gone for Android, they wouldn’t have got the financial support from Google and would’ve been only one in many android manufacturers. Plus Microsoft can benefit from a lot of the technology and experience that Nokia has in making great devices – it is a win-win and could probably push WP7 to the next level.
Such a shame Nokia went with windows , have loved the Nokia hardware for years but never likely to buy one due to the inferior windows os and I am not the only one who thinks like that, if they had gone with android I would buy one without hesitation
