Fans Happy to Pay for CyanogenMod's New Servers

Android favourite CyanogenMod, which brings exciting new versions of Android to phones either abandoned or not yet updated by their makers while also throwing more features into the mix, has acquired two new "Xeon-class boxes with lots of RAM" thanks to a public fundraising appeal.

After asking its users to donate some cash towards the cost of updating its hosting package to allow for the constant downloading of new OS builds, it only took a couple of hours for the initial appeal to meet its target.

The other options for CyanogenMod's future were pretty nuclear, with the possibility of users being asked to pay for access to regular builds one of the mooted solutions. [CyanogenMod Blog via Android Police]
