Hacked Store Guide Gives Shoppers a Porn Shock

By Sam Gibbs on at

I’ve always wondered what the underlying system is behind those massive fancy interactive store guides you get in shopping centres like Westfield. Seems some enterprising hackers had a look and found you could get one to view any website, including a porn site.

As reported in The Metro, Mall-goers in Bratislava, Slovakia were treated to a display of shocking hard-core porn on one of the hacked store guides within Eurovea Galleria. To make matters worse, said store guide was right outside a toy store, causing outrage with parents and passersby alike.

So there you go, endless possibilities for the massive in-store screens. The store guide was probably running Windows XP or something – easy pickings if you know how. I think I’d go with the classic zombie alert warning though, not porn – that’s just childish.
