Google’s topical search engine illustration currently features a montage of hatted gentlemen, ladies of leisure and rough street urchins, thanks to today being the 200th anniversary of the arrival of our most famous storyteller, Mr Charles Dickens.
Clicking on the Google Doodle takes you to a list of free Google eBooks to download. Given that poor Mr Dickens is so long departed of this world, his work is out of copyright and therefore freely available to all. If you didn’t gorge yourself sick on Dickens over Christmas, go get some.
Elsewhere today, Dickens’ birthday will be celebrated by numerous readings of his works around the country, with the actor Ralph Fiennes and Mark Dickens, Charles’ great-great-grandson, both attending a service in Westminster Abbey. [Google via Telegraph]
