OS X Mountain Lion’s Notification Centre looks incredible. So good, in fact, that we’ve been wondering what’s going to happen to Growl notifications in the future. Some crafty developers have presented one answer to that question with Hiss, a program that integrates the latter utility into the former.
The preview of OS X Mountain Lion has only been available for a few days, but the developers at Collect3 have already released a beta version of Hiss, an app pushes your Growl alerts into Notification Centre. In the short term, Hiss could be very useful because Growl is nearly universally used right now. Even though most programs will probably eventually adopt Apple’s new system, there’s going to be a lag.
Hiss version 0.1 is available for free download from the Collect3 website. If you’ve already got a developer version of Mountain Lion installed, you can go try out the new software now. [Collect3 via The Verge]

Are growl planning to develop this integration? Otherwise Mt. Lion could kill Growl in it’s current form
Especially since Growl has moved to a paid app. The constant ‘A new version of growl’ notification is getting a bit annoying, so maybe this is Apples response, take a great idea and … make it theirs?
I didn’t know growl had moved to paid for. I’m not so against this now.
Off to investigate growl…
