ITV Apologises for Using the Word "Coloured" in Racism Report

By Gary Cutlack on at

An ITV News lunchtime report on a football racism summit chaired by David Cameron made the astonishing mistake of referring to black players as "coloured," triggering a right old furore on the internet yesterday.

Red Dwarf Star Danny John-Jules led the charge, taking to Twitter to say: "An ITV news report on David Cameron's 'Race Pow-Wow' at No 10 and the DINOSAURS referred to Black players as 'COLORED'. WTF? Dumb F***wits!"

ITV News then apologised through the social network, before posting an amended version of the report on its online catch-up service. It could've been even worse, as the report also mentioned that Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt was attending the summit. [Guardian]
