MacRumors claims that they have scored an iPad 3 display. According to their analysis, the new iPad—which should be well into production at this point—will have double the resolution in the same surface: 2,048 x 1,536 pixels.
That’s pretty insane!
The current iPads have 1024 x 768. That’s a display density of 132 pixels per inch. If this part turns out to be the real display for the new iPad 3, it will have a 264ppi. It’s not the 326ppi of the iPhone 4, but it’s really high. If true, the new iPad 3 will have a razor-sharp display. Sharp enough not to see the pixels from a normal distance. [MacRumors]

Isn’t proof always definitive?
My thoughts exactly!

So in this case definitive proof would be the most reliable or complete evidence of the truth about the iPad 3 having double the iPad 2′s resolution, which it isn’t. The only definitive proof is a public statement from Apple.
This counts as strong evidence from a reliable source, however remember how much of that there was about the iPhone 5 last year?
Let’s hope the iPad 3 sets the new benchmark that other tablets will be measured against. The slow down in iPad 2 sales reported yesterday is understandable considering the beast that is iPad 3 will soon be unleashed!
Gosh Taf you really are an apple whore.
Taf is a troll. He has two accounts which he uses to argue against himself in the comments.
Yeah I know he is. Haha what’s the name of his other account?
apple were a bit slow on the whole high resolution thing, yes they now do the highest ppi (326ppi) but when the iphone 3g and 3gs came out they had positivley crap resolutions (165ppi) compared to htc phones released at the same time
HTC touch diamond 286 PPI (released same time as 3g)
HTC Touch Diamond 2 292 PPI (released same time as 3gs)
and note these are both higher pixel density’s than the proposed ipad 3
It’s incredible isn’t it, that when the competition was trouncing the iPhone on DPI, the Apple crowd totally ignored it. But as soon as it became a trump feature on the iPhone4, Retina was sung from the rooftops.
Apple were decisively beaten to high res by the other manufacturers, and even when the iPhone4 came out the only reason the iPhone4 DPI was much higher was because they kept a very small screen.
Even when the iPhone 4 came out it was 326ppi vs 292ppi or something as you say. And yet the Apple crowd denounced anything without a “Retina”. All marketing bollocks!
All I can see is a ruler and a what looks like an LCD screen on a table, and J Diaz still wearing those silly Top Gun glasses. Yep, pretty conclusive stuff…Yawn
Wonder if this supposed retina display will be on all ipad 3 models, or just the most expensive?
IF it happens, it will probably be on all iPad3 models. The new screen would be a major selling point, and Apple like to have their new selling point clear and easy for everyone to understand, withour any risk of confusion in the public.
Plus the kind of volume buying they could get with it being on all new screens makes it more cost efficient for them.
