That rumoured double-density iPad 3 display MacRumors got its grubby mitts on has been sent over to the technical teardown folks over at iFixit for a thorough going over, which shows yes, it’s Retina-like and yep, it really could be the iPad 3’s display.
Unfortunately, given the different connectors, attempts to fire up this bad boy were unsuccessful; iFixit had hoped to hook this thing up to an iPad 2 to see if it would light up. Still, the kings of the teardown peered down a microscope and confirmed that the display does indeed have a 2048x1536 resolution and could well be the iPad 3’s display.
This should still be taken as pure rumour and speculation, but seeing the thing on video, and from iFixit not Mr. Blurrycam, certainly dispels any fears the display itself was fake. Whether or not it will actually turn up in an iPad 3 in March – I wouldn’t bet the house on it, but I’ve got my fingers crossed nonetheless. [iFixit via MacRumors]
