Music discovery on Spotify sucks. It really sucks. It’s amazing that you can listen to millions upon millions of songs for up to £10 a month, but trying to find something new is frustrating if all your friends listen to crap. Music Bloodline is your saviour.
The Next Web just stumbled upon Music Bloodline, which is the coolest music discovery tool we’ve seen in a while. It catalogs artists according to who influenced who. Pretend that you’re listening the same T. Rex record over and over because nothing else comes to mind. Head to Music Bloodline and look up T. Rex instead. There you’ll find a bio, discography, and top tracks. There are even Spotify links, so you can listen to tracks and albums with a click. After clicking around on the site a little bit, you’ll find loads of artists you’d never heard before—or at least artists you haven’t listened to in a while. Stone Roses FTW.
Music Bloodline would feel much more seamless and awesome if it were built directly into Spotify as an app, but it’s pretty awesome and we’ll take what we can get for now. [Music Bloodline via The Next Web]

Now the big question is, does this fall where Spotify and others like it have before?
A lot of my music tastes extend much further than the USA and the UK and all these sites never contain half the bands/artists I listen to. Shame the site doesn’t want to load so I can find out, but I’d not be surprised if like usual it won’t adventure past any English speaking countries.
It sure looks like it. This annoys me also – where is the Spotify for J-pop or K-pop? Grooveshark is the only place I can find anything that isn’t a US or UK release, and even that fails me with anything more recent.
And they wonder why I stick to torrents…
Totally agree, if they made it easier to buy music from Asia, South America and other countries, I would happily part with all my cash. But until they do with a way that isn’t expensive or iTunes (I prefer to own the CD) I will have to keep acquiring it in less than legal ways.
First song I discover using this brought me to tears! Definitely keeping this site bookmarked, haha.
