Samsung’s already told us we’re not going to see the Galaxy S III at MWC, and now we’ve got a Samsung event scheduled for the 22nd of March. If that doesn’t reek of a post-MWC Galaxy S III unveiling, I’m not sure what does.
Other rumours out this morning put the Samsung’s latest at just 7mm thick and with May availability. Both chime with previous rumours and what Samsung said about a first half of the year launch for the Galaxy S III.

Yet another Major manufacturer deciding to do it’s big announcement away from the major trade shows. If this trend continues MWC will become like CES.
Considering how much it costs to get into these trade shows, if companies reckon they can draw enough press attention on their own I’m not sure why they wouldn’t just go solo. Cheaper, get coverage when there’s not an absolute ton flooding the news, and you can get a lot more focussed at your own event.
I agree it makes more sense for the manufacturers or the big ones at least to go this way, especially if their major competitors have already done so. It’s just sad to see the old Trade shows decline.
I would have thought it would be cheaper to feature in a trade show rather than hosting a whole event yourself. Is this really the case? I don’t really see why anyone would do trade shows otherwise unless they were small fry trying to get noticed.
