Sony’s tweaking the terms and conditions of its online gaming network, revealing a complete change of name in the process. Instead of PlayStation Network, you’ll soon be signing in to the Sony Entertainment Network to take care of your gaming business.
The changes come into force from February 7th. Nothing else will change about the way PlayStations go on the internet, it’s just a new name. According to a Sony spokesman: “Changing the name ‘PlayStation Network account’ to ‘Sony Entertainment Network account’ helps clarify the unity between PSN and other Sony Entertainment Network services.” [Sony via Joystiq]

Crock of crap reporting from Cutlack…
PSN is not being renamed. It will continue to be called Playstation Network. However the way you sign in is now using a generic Sony sign-in account.
Has Gizmodo really resorted to desperate headlines to get readers, or are Cutlacks UKResistance roots showing through?
A direct quote from the Sony release: As a part of this update, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account”. Certainly sounds like Sony’s renaming PSN to SEN to me.
Clearly some people are not so smart. The key word in Sony’s press release is ACCOUNT.
The key word missing from the misleading headline is, guess what… ACCOUNT.
Playstation Network will still be called Playstation Network, you sign into it with a Sony Entertainment Network account….
Dear god where’s a banhammer when you need one!? This MikJe chap seems to like trolling commenters and Gizmodo writers alike.
We don’t ban anyone here at Giz UK, but let it be known that if we did, well…I think we all know who’d be first in line.
Lets hope it’s the writers of the badly written articles hell bent on sensationalist gutter journalism.
You have to wonder if these writers get a cut of the ad-revenue, hence the writing style.;
I first though he was trolling.
But he is completely right.
The people at Giz just read that email from sony wrong. I admit I did the same and thought this dude was being a faggot.
But the PSN is still the PSN. You just have a Sony account instead of a PSN account. Cos they want all us PSNers to use more sony services.
Which would be easy for them to do, if they made better digital products, Like the PSN.
“Update: It’s not just PlayStation Network accounts that will be renamed – the entire PSN platform will become Sony Entertainment Network, Sony has explained to Eurogamer.
A Sony spokesperson said being called SEN will help make it “clearer and easier” for people to associate the service with “all Sony products” and use one log-in.”

The PSN is becoming the SEN. It really couldn’t get much clearer than that.
Some else that can’t tell the difference between an account and a service.
My Google ACCOUNT allows me to sign into the Gmail SERVICE, the YouTube SERVICE, the Google+ SERVICE, the Picasa SERVICE, the Google Docs SERVICE…
Come on how hard is this to grasp?
From the words of Sony themselves, ie: the people that are doing this in the first place: “the entire PSN platform will become Sony Entertainment Network”.
Lemmie repeat that for you one last time:
“THE ENTIRE PSN PLATFORM WILL BECOME SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK”.
Come on, how hard is this to grasp?
So how did this update work out for people, as my PS3 still shows 99% references to Playstation Network, as before.
There are a couple of references under accounts to SEN, but that’s it…
Seems like some self proclaimed tech know-it-alls are looking like dumbasses right now.
It’s not that the PSN is being binned, it’s that accounts are being expanded to cover other Sony services. I’d assume that people who only have an account for Sony’s music and video service will now have SEN accounts, too.
It’s not being binned, but it is being renamed/rebranded. Ultimately, it’s exactly the same as before – but it seems we’ll have one unified account across a range of Sony services.
All fair enough to me, really.
