The SCRW’s striking design is brilliant. No matter how tall you are or what table you’re sitting at the chair adjusts with just a turn to exactly the right height.
Designed by Manuel Welsky, the chair’s seat is a big piece of cork with threads that screw into an aluminum frame. When your tall friend comes over for dinner, just turn the seat till it’s at the right height. Those of you who play drums—or are familiar with drums, anyway—might recognise similarities to the screw-seat design of a drum throne.

At £420, the SCRW is pricey, but that’s OK because it really shouldn’t be the only piece of beautiful adjustable furniture out there. Someday, hopefully, all chairs will be this brilliant. [Welsky via FastCo Design]

It looks shit. Nothing about it is pleasing to the eye.
Agreed, looks like something from the 70′s And it’s not even going to be nice to sit on.
It could be fun to sit on, if you greased it.
I totally took that in a different manner…lets just say, I don’t want to know the person who would fit that…
Ye, something you can only have at a children’s play place.
Will it screw down if you’re heavy? And I thought the Tripp Trapp chairs were expensive. At least those make sense.
Imagine screwing down if you are too heavy for it. thud thud hthud.
So it’s one of those seats you find in photobooths?
Exactly what I thought
Seriously? The office chair that I’m sitting on right now does that and a lot more easily; no pesky screwing involved. ಠ_ಠ
