Google image search is normally pretty good using just keywords, and it’s even better when you search using an existing image. But what if you could quickly draw out what you’re looking for and search for things that match it? There’s, err, an app for that.
In what reminds me of the perp sketches they mock up in cop shows, which they then somehow miraculously match against some criminal photo database, the “Unofficial Google Image Search by Drawing” web app allows you to do just that but for any image.
Results are dependant on your drawing skill of course – that limits me to finding stick figures and coloured blobs – but for simple shapes, logos and things you can easily draw with a mouse-brush and a few colours the results aren’t bad. It’s a hell of a lot better than randomly browsing through a vast library of images just because you can’t find a similar image and your keywords are a tad vague. Give it a whirl next time you’re stuck looking for that elusive mystery image. [Unofficial Google Image Search by Drawing via LifeHacker]
