Let me preface this with an admission that I’m a big fan of the original, so when I heard they were making a new Dredd film, well, I was both excited and apprehensive. Let’s face it; some of the recent reboots of classic franchises have been a bit crap of late. Unfortunately, these leaked clips don’t fill me with confidence.
OK, they are post-production – a modern movie spends quite a lot of time in post-production these days – so there’s still time to firm things up. But the clip of the Judges in their armour really needs a lot of work not to just look like plastic toys.
Dredd 2012 is slated for a 21st September release, so hopefully it’ll look a tad more polished by the summer. Fingers crossed anyway. [YouTube via BuzzFeed]

You were a fan of the original film??
I loved the comics a lot, for this reason, and the negative press, I stayed away from the Stallone film, as I don’t know many that have given it a favourable opinion. I guess I’ll have to check it out now!
Trust me, if you loved the comics you’ll most probably hate the film.
The Stallone film that is.
I haven’t ever read any of the comics (never was a comic fan), so judging by the repulsed reactions, I’m guessing if you read the comic the film won’t do it justice. For me, as a Dredd novice, I loved it.
The original was a Hollywood bastardisation of the whole concept and story of Judge Dredd. From what I have read this will be closer to the Comic Book original. For a start, he won’t be taking his helmet off.
Yeah, the other one was just a Stallone vehicle – although it had a great look (lycra and codpieces aside)
This one looks much closer in tone to the character.
I wouldn’t try to judge it too much by these clips, they’ve been taken off a compositor’s reel, who for some reason put them up before the film has even been released. So they’re not really doing it justice…
They have gone a more realistic route though, to make it more practical. And it’s a lot closer to Robocop (which ripped off Dredd) and Mad Max than the far future Stallone version.
As an aside,
I took some photos for these guys

Which is a lot closer to the comics…
That must have been a fun shoot
You wouldn’t hear me complaining…
Sam Gibbs = The worlds only Stallone/Judge Dredd fan – SHAME ON YOU
This film is written by Alex Garland and John Wagner (Dredd creator) consulted on the script. Dredd keeps his helmet on and Judge Anderson PSI is in it !!!!
I personally know of four other people who also like Stallone’s Judge Dredd. I admit, that’s not an awful lot of people, but beggars can’t be choosers
There is a bit of a fanbase, the comic fans generally don’t rate it – I don’t mind it as much as some, but really once the helmet and costume come off, the character of Dredd vanishes as well.
Oh and Rob Schneider as well…
Stallone also looked too much like a glam rocker with the stacked boots, lycra and bling.
Dredd’s costume is theatrical enough, they didn’t need to make it even more camp…

Or go the Urban route and push for even more practicality…
