This is Bill Flora. He helped lead the team credited with designing Metro, the tile-based Windows Phone UI that will constitute the core of Windows 8′s interface on touch-screen devices. Flora is understandably proud of his creation, “It was fresh.” he told CNet, “It wasn’t Apple.” That’s good because apparently everything else on his desk is.
Take a closer look. Flora appears to employ nothing but Apple products for his work — an Apple Cinema Display, a MacBook Pro, and an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard are all clearly visible. I’m surprised that Microsoft doesn’t have rules against fraternising with the enemy’s tech like this. [CNet via CultofMac]

Bootcamp.
So what’s the insinuation? He’s using Mac OS design software by Apple that doesn’t work on a PC?
As someone who typesets adverts and brochures I’ve always admired Apple’s professional-level hardware in the past for its quality and stability, and they do still produce equipment that is well suited to designers, however I don’t like the way they seem to be heading towards catering for the fashion/consumer with high disposable income market only (the last version of Final Cut Pro for example) and if they do lose the focus on their historical market it would be a shame.
I get what you mean; Mac’s have become the new tech fashion instead of being seen as a tool. It feels like that the tides will turn against apple pretty soon, but I don’t know why. No company can be that rich and hold that much market share before something drastic happens.
No.
Well, if he had the Windows 8 UI he was designing running on a Windows PC, he wouldn’t need MacOS, would he? But before he designed it, it didn’t exist, so he couldn’t use it.
It’s not OuroborOS!
I cannot express how brilliant the last bit of your comment was.
Friggin’ awesome to shoehorn that reference in there

Pretty sure my 2yr old created MetroUI with his coloured building blocks.
Really Metro is the most horrendous thing to come out of Redmond since, well Microsoft Bob.
what about Clippy? Or Steve Balmer? They’re both pretty horrendous.
I miss Clippy =(
Hey, it looks like you’re experiencing sadness!
Do you want to:
- Listen to Linkin Park?
- Sit in a corner and cry?
- Write a livejournal entry?
That sounds like my usual Friday night..
Maybe he was listening to Stephen Elop when he said “I’d rather people have the intellectual curiosity to try to understand what we’re up against.” Definitely a good thing.

And anyway, we’ve all seen the photos of Bill Gates laying sensually next to an old Apple computer.
Related to this; the awesomeness that is Brian Eno created the Windows 95 start-up chime on a Mac. He hates PCs.
The Windows 95 start-up sound was crap. The win 98 and XP ones were good.
Cool story for buying an OS just for the start-up sound.
Interesting choice of kit:
MacBook Pro – good choice, good hardware and allows for dual booting
Apple Cinema Display – why on earth choose such a glossy display over say a matt dell ultrasharp unless you care more about it looking pretty on your desk rather than performing well?
and the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard? Why on earth would you choose that unless you were looking for an excuse to get RSI?
Overall this looks like the workspace of someone who wants to look cool and trendy rather than being productive
To beat the enemy, You must know your enemy.
It would not surprise me – while the PC may be king in the office – Apple equipment has always been superior when it comes to design.
If he uses an Apple – it is probably because for what he does it is the best there is.
Microsoft is mainly Software, Apple is mainly hardware, probably just uses bootcamp
