It’s been a long time coming, our intrepid android astronaut was first freed from his packing on the ISS back in March last year, we even glimpsed a look through his eyes in September, but now Robonaut 2’s finally been activated.
You can watch as the humanoid robo-spaceman goes through his morning ritual, flexing while he blasts through a warm-up. Thankfully everything seemed to go OK.
Space is a pretty hazardous place, so robots in the dark void seems pretty logical to me, but did we really have to give him a super creepy golden helmeted head? He just looks like a blinged-up Master Chief to me. [NASA via Engadget]

It’s been great to see some of the NASA innovations that have made their way into public technology, such as the Chemical Sniffer and Cell Implants that were covered in the Giz Space Camp. I wonder what elements of this will see their way into public life? Looks like it’s got some very clever dexterous hands and arms, future technology for prosthetics perhaps?
