Oh Apple, as much as I love you—yes Phil, you know I do love you—you can really piss me off sometimes. No, I’m not talking about iOS’ serious privacy problem or the obnoxious nature of some of your Apple spokepeople.
I’m talking about your current careless attitude towards the really important things. You know, the little details that Steve used to care so much about.
Like… HOW THE HELL DID THE ABOVE HAPPEN? Are your designers really this blind? Or do they draw your interfaces using Siri?
You know I thought the off-centre number 1 on the Apple calendar was extremely annoying. I was only half joking, but I was serious too. Unfortunately, this is something that iOS 5 didn’t fix, but it’s ok. It’s only one day. I can ignore it. I can close my eyes and secretly hope Steve Jobs would strike someone with an anti-matter ray from whichever planet he is now.
But these off centre days of the week in the iPhone’s calendar? Can’t you see them? How did this happen? Really, Apple. This is way too much. This is truly fucked up. This agression shall not stand, dude. This must be fixed OR ELSE.
Seriously, what’s wrong with you, Scott Forstall? Yes, you. Aren’t you supposed to be Steve Jobs’s heir? Where’s his obsessive attention to detail? Hell. Steve would have fired you in an elevator if he were alive just for this screenshot alone. He would be like: “I forgave you for fucking up with your failed iPhone 4 test program. But this? This is shit. You are fired.”
I can’t even begin to fathom who are the monkeys in charge of Apple’s user interface design these days? Between this and their leather obsession, it seems there is a whole department working actively to destroy Steve’s attention to detail legend.
Now, how long until we get Jon Ive in charge of all of Apple? Because I. Can’t. Fucking. Wait. [Thanks Ignignokt!]

I’m no longer an iPhone user but I agree; it’s there attention to detail which makes me miss their platform.
I can see how you’re already missing ‘their’ attention to detail.
The funny thing is he got it right later in the sentence.
Can we have a ‘not Jesus Diaz’ tag please.
Agreed; isn’t he the reason why there’s a Giz UK?
Seconded, the arrogance and disregard for readers was the reason I stopped reading Gizmodo, I only came back because of the UK one.
Yes please!
100% on board!
+1 votes.
Surely the motion is carried.
I actually think The “Not Jesus Diaz” tag should be an opt-out by default.
I’d like to add my vote to this worthy endeavour.
I just got banned from commenting on the US site by Jesus Diaz because i voted him as the worst commenter…… so funny!!
Another +1 here.
Maybe an ‘Only Jesus Diaz’ tag is required for when you need a laugh too.
+1
Didn’t expect a nonsense rant by Diaz to be featured story on Giz UK
Still, it gives me great pleasure that everyone else here seems to hate him as a blogger as much as I do
Having said that, it’s clearly another “ironic” post by Jesus with his incredible sense of humour. Judging by the mass bannings/suspensions/whatever for pretty much every comment over on Giz US, this is all part of his comedy routine. *yawn*
The reason this is the featured post is probably due to the number of comments posted on it, so those of us calling for the “No Diaz” option are probably to blame. On the subject to the loveable quirks of Mr D, did you know he has been banned as a commenter (but not a contributor) over on Giz US?
Yes, I was indeed aware. Except it’s obviously all part of the deliberate spectacle, i.e. I’m sure he wouldn’t be banned if he didn’t want to be.
There was a post saying that he was banned, but he certainly wasn’t, not even for a day: http://gizmodo.com/people/jesusdiaz/
Sure, he should be able to reply to those who criticise him, but not be able to threaten/warn/ban them.
If Giz UK gets to the point where such moderation is necessary, it must be structured so that the authors cannot moderate comments on their own articles.
Things are just going from bad to worse over there. Have you seen this ? http://gizmodo.com/5884113/who-is-the-worst-commenter?comment=46885648#comments
Ah, sorry about that, it seems he was banned, but a day after that therefore unnecessary post, and for less than a week.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t all commenter bans been permanent?
Adding my vote too.
@Jordan All of mine were
Wow, didn’t realise the Gizmodo US commenting system was based on a popularity contest!
Hell Yes!
i realise that the esteemed mr. diaz is a trending gold mine but i find his writing style extremely irritating and immature. i think i may have found him funny when i was about 12, but i cannot be sure. the thing i find most interesting is what the rest of the giz staff think of him, and whether they just put up with for the good of the increased traffic. else, he may be a perfectly affable chap and he’s just doing an anne robinson.
Kat has said he isn’t actually like this in real life.
Can’t say I ever noticed this so it doesn’t really matter
#whitewhine
another annoying fault is the number 1 when the battery is at 100% it is SO annoying!
OMG, I just checked that….I cannot unsee it now…
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
I hate you. I’m never fully charging my phone again.
As I don’t have an iPhone I have no idea what you are talking about. Any chance of a pic?
I have pondered on this, and I think it is sarcasm. Just in case I asked a friend to fully charge his iPhone so I can have a look.
Sorry, but it’s too much for your eyes to handle. No one should have to witness that.
Fortunately as an Android user I am spared looking at this obvious abomination, perhaps this explains why Android is so popular, people just couldn’t bear to look at the uglyness of iOS
I loved it so much, I added it as my lockscreen….

It is weird indeed. Check magicpuppy’s picture.
The one that really bugs me is the native music app on iPad, since they changed it to the horrible new one in ios 5, whenever I exit the full screen artwork after being in it for more than 5 minutes, it displays a blank screen with a new boxes at the top, the onely way of getting rid of it is forcre quitting the app
first world problems
Quick question to author. Have you ever seen a mobile system other than iOS?
I’m asking with the assumption that the answer is yes, so, to move on to my point, there can be no comparison between the attention to detail displayed between Apple and it’s competitors.
The real question then is why do you waste your time with pointing out the couple of things that cause iOS to deviate from your conception of perfection (in inverted commas) when you would be better informing your readers by discussing the merits of the competition in comparison to iOS.
(unapologetic iOS fan)
You do know that there are “” on a keyboard don’t you. You only have to use the word’s in speech.
I see what you did there.
To be honest, this article strikes me as somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Jesus was perhaps told not to be such a fanboy and this is his response. The article is covered in feigned sincerity.
Another great bug is the top bar not changing from black to white when you select music from the music app through playlists and genres.
Come on Apple; consistency of UI experience used to be your thing.
Let’s stop worrying about conditions for workers in China, off-centre numbers are a far more pressing issue.
This guy has way too much spare time. Every OS out there has its weirdness/oddities/imperfections but at the end of the day its a tool to get a job done don’t you think ???
Now that this has been pointed out my brain is now falling apart. Inconsistent volumes have been annoying me too. Nobody else noticed that occasionally the lock sound will randomly be rip your face off loud?
Isn’t it SLIGHTLY more important that Apple fix the fact that their users Contacts and Calendar details are available to anyone to steal and upload rather then a bit of bad centring? There’s a difference between attention to detail and OCD you know.
No. This is far more important.
rage comic? srlsly?
I was going to come up with a meme based response to this, but then I took and arrow in the knee.
Srsly? http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/005/545/OpoQQ.jpg

Like… ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?! Jason Chen would have kicked you all in the eyes if he were here!
Now, how long until we get Kat in charge of all of Gawker? Because I. Can’t. Fucking. Wait.
– Kidding, of course, about the alignment, just a joke.
Let’s give Apple the benefit of the doubt and assume they weren’t trying to centre any of the days. What they’ve done is left-align them all by the same (consistent) amount. It just happens to be the case that some day names are shorter
Personally I’ve found issue with the iOS consistency and attention to detail since my first iPhone 3G. One particular irritation was the when creating a playlist you no longer have the alphabet down the side of the screen so if you want something at the bottom you have a lot of scrolling to do. but it’s available everywhere else.
I’ve always said, Apple have great ideas and implement the big things well but they always fall down on the simplest things that should never have gotten through testing and they rarely fix them.
Pointless swearing? check. Empty waste of space article? check. Complete and utter amazement that this person has a job writing this crap? check. It can only be Jesus Diaz. Dear Giz, I can talk utter shit. Can I come work for you too? Oh wait, my speling isn’t bad enough. It’s bad, but not bad enough.
Apart from Jesus’s offensive Top Gun Aviator Style Sunglasses (They are so cool – Advice, they look shit))I can’t see anything really wrong with the article, bit of over dramatic writing and pleonasm perhaps, why not?
I have no idea why you’re going on about this, the calendar is in the right order, from Sunday to Saturday, the first day to the seventh day. Look up your history man! And get to know the meaning of the word Sunday and Saturday!
Did you even read the article? He’s talking about the words being off-centre. Well to be more accurate he’s talking meaningless drivel with added foul language for dramatic effect and there is some mention of off-centre words too.
I remember Jesus replying to a commentator who dared disagree with him in which our favourite journalist (sic) screamed that “it was his house and if people didn’t like [his work] they could all fuck off as Gizmodo didn’t give a shit about readers’ opinions and didn’t need them”. There was only one reply to that rant, by a third person:
“Tell that to the big corporate sponsors who pay your wages based on traffic, you imbecilic shit.”
I believe he was banned, but I bet he thought planting one on the smug asshole was totally worth it.
I have another Jesus Diaz story which I’ll save for later. All I’ll say now is that I ended up having to change my email address.
