What happens when you fire an HK53 assault rifle against the new iPad? I know, the answer is obvious, but you may be surprised. Watch this video and see.
Obviously, the HK53—and the Benelli shotgun he uses later—is going to make a lot of holes on the iPad’s surface. But I was surprised to see how solid this thing was after receiving so may shots. I was expecting to get seriously destroyed, but the holes were clean and everything was held in place, aluminium, electronics and Gorilla glass still tightly sandwiched together.
These things are hard! [YouTube via Geekologie]

People with to much spare time and money are given guns ? WTF !
I’m not sure what you were expecting, high velocity ammo is obviously going to pass straight through, it would do the same on a human target.
On a side note, what exactly is the point of shooting the shit out of a piece of new tech, I’m sure there are better ways to stimulate the economy than wasting £500.
Soon Apple will announce how many they have sold (it’ll be a new record), but half of that have been destroyed by drop tests and idiots like this.
Not that I don’t enjoy watching stuff being shot to pieces.
It’s the same point as people dropping iPads on video to see what happens.
I’m still trying to figure it out.
Nothing beats blending.
looks like they had to bend the iPad in half to blend it http://youtu.be/lAl28d6tbko and the same with the iPad 2 http://youtu.be/USiaeXzYkOE
Didn’t survive the shotgun too well.
Do you think that’s covered by Apple care?
Not really surprising at all. The type of round he used is designed to punch straight through. Same reason you don’t get big holes when you shoot paper targets its the same principle. You see on the shotgun it creates a bigger hole because its designed to hit over a larger area in the first place.
Also at high velocity thin metal will break cleanly just like paper would. And the whole thing is sandwiched together into one so its all held together like any laminate material would.
Has anybody seen my new Ipad???? I’m sure it’s fine…… wait??
