Dutch TV Porn Can't Be Stopped

By Gary Cutlack on at

Ofcom has complained to Dutch TV regulators over the appearance of the likes of soft porn adult chat channel Babestation in our Freeview TV listings, which it's powerless to stop.

It's an odd and rather awkward situation for our TV regulator. Babestation is registered and licensed under Dutch broadcasting laws, so Ofcom is actually powerless to act on any possible breaches of UK TV regulations -- and can't block them from being broadcast should they offend, anyway.

Ofcom says the channels could be breaching rules on promoting web site content to under-18s, plus, of course, these channels are accessible by children during the day, who may be cycling through the listings trying to find cartoons or Blue Peter or whatever it is children watch on TV nowadays. [BBC]
