Marko Ahtisaari, who is Nokia’s current big boss of design matters, has spoken on the matter of a Nokia tablet. And yes, it is making one. As we sort of already knew. Nice to have confirmation from someone who eats at the Nokia staff canteen, though.
In an interview with Finnish magazine Kauppalehti, Ahtisaari claimed he’s spending around one-third of his contracted hours working on schematics for a future Nokia tablet, which we can only assume would arrive running Windows 8. [Reuters]

Am I the only one who is not excited by any current Tablet? I’m not holding out much hope for the new Windows 8 style tablets either. The only way I can see a Windows 8 tablet being worth while, Metro delivering us a good current tablet-like experience when on the road. Then using a good docking station and being able to use the Tablet like a current PC in teh office/home. I’ve got the feeling that I’m the only one wanting this, and Windows 8 Tablets will end up more toys like than business like.
Guess I’m just moving into my grumpty old man years.
I like my iPad 2.
That said, in many ways it is very much like a bigger iPhone – you’ve got some fantastic apps that make all the difference, but the standard UI isn’t making the most of the fact you’ve got a nice big screen to play with. Heck – even the iPhone has more features at this rate (with Widgets and full-blown Siri for example).
Windows 8 seems to be built for tablets from the ground up, so I’m looking forward to see what manufacturers come up with. Particularly Nokia.
A Nokia tablet running Windows 8 could be a winner for them. Nokia hardware over the years has still been phenomenal, their smartphones only really being let down by the OS (Though I maintain that it’s not as bad as everyone thinks).
A Lumia-esque tablet would look pretty awesome too. I just hope that they ignore the “Classic” desktop though, it has no place on a tablet device! Stick with Metro all the way!
Apparently that classic desktop with still be there on the ARM versions – though you won’t be able to run any other app on there other than explorer or office.
