Confirming what we understood from our little hands-on with the Nokia 808 PureView, the beastly 41-megapixel-camera tech that forms the heart of the not-so-budget Symbian handset is crossing over to the Lumia line soon.
In an interview with Finnish newspaper Aamulehti, Nokia’s Jo Harlow said that although she couldn’t say precisely when we’ll see it, it wouldn’t take very long to port it across to the Windows Phone hardware.
We’re unlikely to see 41-megapixels make it into the current generation of Nokia Windows Phones, but WP Apollo is said to be landing before the end of the year, so it could come packing a PureView boost. Whether or not Nokia’s PureView camera tech is actually worth the circuit boards it’s printed on, now that’s another question. Olympus doesn’t reckon so at least. I’ll wait until I see what these phone and camera’s are like, but it does sound like good news.
A good camera on a phone is certainly a nice to have feature and currently the Nokia Lumia 800 is teh best camera I’ve seen, so hopefully it’ll be good.
Really? From the reviews I’ve read the Lumia 800s camera is pretty average..
Yeah, I’d agree with that. It’s a good camera phone camera for quick shots but I would still carry around my point and shoot for proper photos.
i think that’s the point of that camera. most people cannot carry a 3 pounds camera with an expensive lense everytime we need to take a good picture. I’d love to see pic samples.
