Last week we heard that people really were buying Samsung’s Galaxy Note phablet, at least down under. Now Samsung’s come out and confirmed it – it’s shipped over five million of the things and in just five months. It’s not even sporting Ice Cream Sandwich yet.
Five million in five months is almost iPhone money; Samsung must be jumping up and down with giddy abandon having apparently found a niche in the market hitherto untapped. I’m still not convinced I’d get on with one personally, but obviously quite a few love them. Shout out if you’re a Note-lover – I’d be interested to hear how many Brits actually bought them. One every three seconds for five months…not bad at all.
I know there is a difference between shipped and sold, but they’ve made 5m of these in good faith that they’ll sell them. I wonder that 5m compares with other phones? (iPhone excepted)
Seems like it’s been a success – apart from the ICS issues…
I don’t want one, but those are impressive figures.
BTW Giz; “It’s not even sporting Ice Cream Sandwich yet”.
The specific version of the Android OS is not an important factor for most buyers- most probably wouldn’t even know what ICS *was* if you told them it didn’t have it. Regular people just don’t think like that
It’s still a valid point. It’s quite late to not come out with ICS.
I just got mine yesterday. It replaces my old phone and my tablet.
Really happy, its a very nice device.
Got one in January as an upgrade from a 3GS……it is legit. The iPhones screen might be sharper but now….it just looks so *small*….and I’m a demon on Draw Something thanks to the stylus.
If you have OCD about keeping the screen clean, like I do, then a stylus is very appealing. The only reason most phones and tablets don’t have one is that Apple defined the market with the iPhone and iPad. That’s not a bad thing, but having the option is better.
Considering how many tech sites (including Android specific ones) said “who the hell will want this?” I think Samsung have every right to feel very pleased with these numbers. Also since ‘Draw Something’ for Android supports use of the stylus on the Note they may have found their Killer App.
I think I also recall this site questioning this device. When I first saw the Note I fought it is the next type of device I will get, not ready to upgrade yet so in the mean time if the Note gets quad and a refined stylus then I have no reason not to buy – I also hear a special Abobe app ships with the 10″ note.
I love love love my galaxy note, at first i thought it was a bit big, but now i love it! It fits in my pocket, has an amazing screen for media, takes great pictures and has a battery life on par with any other android phone out there!
I have a Note, I bought it from Germany as I couldn’t wait any longer for the device, it is great, very smooth. I checked out the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy S2 and not a lot has changed so I guess most consumers won’t notice this difference like stickyfiddle said.
The stylus is something that I don’t use very often but it is very handy when needs must as fingers are no where near accurate enough for a lot of tasks I do
I have one, However I am quite tall with big monkey hands! I always had problems texting on my previous phone but with this it’s easy, and it just makes games and apps that much more fun
let’s be honest, if you wanted a phone for practicality you would just buy a cheap cheap one.
