If space is at a premium in your kitchen, and money is no object, Caple’s new Sense C5100 oven doubles as extra counter space when it’s retracted into your cabinets.
It’s all self-powered so the oven and its clever see-through glass shelving rise from your counter at the push of a button. And thanks to strategically positioned sensors, there’s no worry of a finger or other tools getting caught and crushed when the oven retracts.
A strip of touch-sensitive controls lets you specify what you’re cooking so the oven can automatically set the perfect temperature for finicky items like bread or pizza, but just keep in mind that its £2,000+ price tag doesn’t include the installation and possible re-modeling necessary to make room for the C5100 in your kitchen. Hasn’t this sort of thing been around for ages? Swear I’ve seen appliances like this on kitchen adverts for a while now
I know what you mean, but I don’t think I have ever seen an oven version though.
I swear I saw this exact thing on Giz UK before…

Indeed I did.

This thing is going to be a massive waste of energy. When you open a conventional oven door, most of the heat is retained because it’s difficult for fresh air to circulate all the way to the back of the oven and so heat loss is minimal. By pulling the entire thing up like this all your hot air will dissipate in a few seconds…
How does this save space? A front loading oven could still have a work surface above it rather than a hob?
I don’t really see how this saves too much space? and how do you check what you’re cooking without opening the oven? Seems like a bit of an expensive gimmick to me.
